Application of PWM Controlled Cycloconverter For Washing Machine

ABSTRACT The single-phase induction motor, in permanent split capacitor topology, is used in some models of washing machines. This paper presents the implementation of the cycloconverter control to drive the washing machine in order to provide benefits in improving the energy efficiency and the motor drive. The results obtained from the experimental setup showed good advantages in the dynamic response and the system efficiency compared to the traditional configuration. In this paper, cycloconverter is used to split-phase induction motor speed control system developed for proposed washing machine. Output voltage is synthesized by PWM technique. A design using cycloconverter is proposed. In this the output voltage is synthesized by switching IGBTs. Switching is done by control signals generated using PWM techniques. A simulation model was developed using MATLAB. Simulated results have been observed and analyzed.
